"Short-sighted" regulatory regimes are failing the staffing sector

The staffing industry would benefit immensely from a "renewed focus" on harmonising labour hire and other IR regulation, with hopes pinned on some change after upcoming elections, says RCSA head of advocacy and policy Brooke Lord.

RCSA has been a part of the industry advisory group consulting on harmonising labour hire regulation, and state and territory government ministers are currently considering a draft report of recommendations, she tells Shortlist.

However, "there are a number of obstacles and challenges to harmonisation because there's lots of different people starting from different places".

"Certainly, there's lots of different models where even though they look the same in legislation, they're different in how they operate."

While there are challenges and it's up to the states and territories to decide, Lord says that for businesses operating nationally, "ultimately there has to be "some consistency" in legislation to reflect that...
