"A compliance bomb for the staffing industry": leaders respond to SJSP

The Federal Government's proposed 'same job, same pay' reforms could cause major compliance headaches for the staffing sector, according to RCSA CEO Charles Cameron. Meanwhile another employer association warns the proposals are too broad and clumsy.

Responding to the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations consultation paper reported in Shortlist yesterday, Cameron says the Government has written to RCSA and explained that its justification for proposed 'same job, same pay' laws is two-fold: "to get wages moving, and to protect the enterprise bargaining system".

"So, given Australia's most respected labour market research confirms on-hire casuals are paid more than direct-hire casuals, and we are drivers of workforce mobilisation, we are already getting wages moving," Cameron tells Shortlist...
