AI might run out of data: futurist

As recruiters increasingly adopt generative AI, a new concern looms that governments and companies are limiting access to data, which would constrain its usefulness in the future, thought leader and futurist Kevin Wheeler says.

AI has been around for "a long, long time", Wheeler told attendees at this year's Australasian Talent Conference (ATC). "I was working in AI in 1982 and 1983. But it was really, really primitive stuff."

While developers back then hired "thousands of people" to pre-train systems, computers now, using neural networks, are able to roam the internet, "look at all the data that it can find out there", look for patterns in the data, and come up with probabilities, which basically drives generative AI, Wheeler said...
