Hays' Australian business has been a core profit driver for the global company for many years, but its half-year results to December show the region needs greater focus and operational rigour, says global chief executive Dirk Hahn.
Net fees in Australia fell 19% year-on-year on a like for like basis to £74.3 million (A$143.3m), and operating profit plummeted by 60% to just £6.4 million (A$12.3m).
The company took an axe to consultant headcount over the year, with 887 consultants left at the end of December, compared with 1,110 a year earlier (a 20% cut)...
