Clear skills definition crucial for effective diversity recruiting: Hoban

Overcoming the barriers to diversity recruitment requires putting time into developing very clear definitions of the essential requirements of a role, and selecting candidates from a purely objective rating scale, says Hoban CEO Alison Watts.

"We work with the customer to design the best selection process and a really objective rating scale and if we've clearly defined what good skills and attributes and behaviours look like, then we can measure and assess those fairly and objectively," Watts tells Shortlist, following Hoban's recent DEI awards.

"If people don't have that methodology then often they will look to recruit people like themselves.

"It's the defined structure of the process and the rating scale that delivers diversity because it's selecting purely on the essential requirements of the job...
