"Compulsory" development turns rookies into top billers

A development program where participation is "compulsory" for everyone is enabling a fast-growing agency to quickly turn its outside-industry hires into top billers.

Developing top talent from within is a key strategy for tech recruiter Emanate Technology, which has recently expanded to Melbourne, and also operates in Canberra and Brisbane, says commercial director Karl White.

"Especially if you're taking from outside the industry, we all know there's a bit of hit and miss there. You try and get better and better, but we certainly have developed consistent methods of assessment in terms of questions we want to ask," he tells Shortlist.

Emanate has a strong "grow your own talent" focus, he says, which is underpinned by ongoing development, including a training session every Friday that all staff are expected to attend...
