Australia's workplace relations ministers have until the end of October to agree on a model for harmonised labour hire regulation, or the Federal Government will step in with a national scheme.
DEWR has confirmed to Shortlist's associate publication Workplace Express that the ministers have agreed that a working group of senior officials, led by Queensland and Victoria, will develop the model, which will then be considered by 8 December.
The Department has also confirmed the national model will need to include all necessary features of existing schemes and a mechanism for mutual recognition of labour hire licences across jurisdictions, to reduce the regulatory burden for business.
If a harmonised model cannot be achieved in this time, the Federal Government has indicated it will go ahead with a single national labour hire licensing scheme...
