Employer entitled to "complete candour" in hiring process

An employer was entitled to lose confidence in and sack an employee who gave false information during his recruitment process, the WA Industrial Relations Commission has ruled.

In this case, the employee was a police officer, and "the [Police Commissioner] must be able to rely on complete candour from candidates in the recruitment process", the Commission said.

The full bench – Chief Commissioner Stephen Kenner and Commissioners Toni Emmanuel and Tim Kucera – was hearing an appeal by the officer, who was dismissed from the force after it found he had failed to disclose information about a pre-existing medical condition, which prevented him from properly carrying out his duties...
