Gender targets to be required for government recruitment tenders

Proposed new legislation will require virtually all medium and large recruitment companies to report their progress toward gender equality targets before they are eligible to tender for federal government work, according to Workplace Gender Equality Agency CEO Mary Wooldridge.

Speaking to the National Press Club last week, Wooldridge outlined some of the key points of the Labor government's next package of workplace legislation.

She confirmed that among the new provisions will be guidelines on government procurement that will require companies with more than 500 employees to "commit to and achieve" a range of gender improvement goals.
