Global hiring on the up and up

A growing number of Australian organisations are turning to overseas hiring to counter fierce talent competition, new research shows.

Australia is the second fastest-growing country by rate of hiring in APAC, topped only by Singapore, according to a report by global payroll and compliance platform Deel.

In APAC, overseas hiring was up 227% in the latter half of 2021, with the top three roles comprising software engineer, virtual assistant and custom support executive. (The report uses data pulled from more than 100,000 work contracts from over 150 countries, along with 500,000 third-party data points.)

APAC is the smallest market for Deel, which officially launched in Australia last November, but ANZ head of expansion Shannon Karaka tells Shortlist it represents a major growth opportunity...
