'Great recruiter' competencies overlooked in agency hiring

Recruitment leaders keep making the same old mistakes when hiring their own consultants, even though the characteristics of a successful recruiter are a known quantity, says assessment expert and recruitment industry veteran Kevin Chandler.

Chandler tells Shortlist he doesn't understand why more recruitment companies aren't using assessment and psychological tools when hiring their teams, given he's been preaching these facts for well over 30 years.

"I have maintained that there are certain fundamental psychological characteristics that differentiate the really good [recruiters] from others," he says.

"Every now and again you just have to remind the industry, which whinges about how difficult this all is... I'm saying, 'hey there are these underlying characteristics and if you have them, the chances are you can be very good'."...
