Hiring manager "collaboration chaos" requires new tactics

The only way recruiters can end their "collaboration chaos" with hiring managers is by amping up their "human skills" and clearly defining the role they play, an industry advisor says.

The quality of in-house recruiters' collaboration with hiring managers has only worsened since hybrid and remote work became more widespread, says UK-based recruitment trainer and consultant Katrina Collier, noting that other departments still don't necessarily know exactly what talent acquisition does.

The crux of the problem is that talent acquisition is a "new function" compared to other elements of organisations, such as finance, sales or marketing.

"No-one knows what talent acquisition does... They're trying to get hiring managers to partner with them and they're trying to get greater HR to partner with them to make a smooth onboarding process and things like that, but they just don't."

The problem affects "every single recruiter", she notes, adding that her research is in the talent acquisition space, but agency recruiters suffer just as much...
