"Hunters" in strong demand as recruitment market normalises

As the recruitment market starts to normalise, agencies with too many "farmer" consultants will soon be rushing to bring on board more "hunters", a rec-to-rec specialist says.

"We're seeing less demand for rookies, less demand for candidates that have less recruiting experience. [Leaders are] looking for more stable resumes, ability, and ideally networks and IP in the field," says Your Career director Will Gordon.

Most notably, the recruitment industry's incoming demand has overshadowed the need for business development skills over the past two years, and Gordon tells Shortlist he's worked on many jobs "without any requirements in terms of BD".

However, "as we normalise, and I think normalise is a good word, from this pendulum being all around the candidate, we will see then more of the need to transition into origination and business development," he says...
