Peoplebank's latest salary index has recorded a drop in the number of professionals working in digital and IT roles, and a "noticeable decline" in contractor hiring. Meanwhile tech sector layoffs aren't likely to have a major impact on that talent pool, an academic says.
For the period ending December 2022, the year-on-year drop in professionals in the IT talent pool was less than 1%. But it's the first decline since 2021, when Peoplebank started releasing its biannual Salary Index, which combines its own insights on the industry with data from LinkedIn.
The report says in the last six months of 2022 there was a 2% decrease in the number of IT professionals changing jobs compared to the first six months, with contract jobs down 10.4% and permanent jobs down 5.6%. Government jobs were down by 26.2% while non-government jobs rose 1.5%...
