Job mobility at 10-year peak, but far short of a Great Resignation

New figures from the ABS show job mobility is at a 10-year high, but still far below predictions worthy of being labelled a 'Great Resignation'.

In the 12 months to February 2022, 9.5% of employed people (1.3 million) changed jobs, up from 7.5% of people (975k) in the previous corresponding period, according to the ABS data.

The recent rise in job mobility was more pronounced for women (rising from 7.6% to 10.0%) than men (7.5% to 9.1%). Meanwhile by occupation group, the largest rises were for clerical and administrative workers (7.0% to 10.3%) and machinery operators and drivers (7.9% to 10.6%).

But in noting the mobility rate is the highest since 2012, ABS head of labour statistics Bjorn Jarvis also highlights that "some of this will be delayed or deferred job mobility from the first year [of the pandemic]"...
