Jobs and Skills Australia bill promises "truly tripartite" body

The Federal Government has today introduced new legislation to establish Jobs and Skills Australia as a permanent body, setting out its full range of functions and governance arrangements.

The Jobs and Skills Australia Amendment Bill 2023 proposes to expand JSA's interim functions to include:

  • providing advice to the Minister or Secretary in relation to the impact of workplace arrangements, including 'insecure work', on economic and social outcomes;
  • identifying labour market imbalances and analysing the demand and supply of skills;
  • analysing skills needs and workforce needs, including in regional, rural and remote Australia, and in relation to migration;
  • undertaking studies, including on opportunities to improve employment, VET and higher education outcomes for cohorts of individuals that have historically experienced labour market disadvantage and exclusion;
  • contributing to industry consultation forums; and
  • in consultation with the Minister and other stakeholders, preparing and publishing an annual work plan...
