Permanent migration focus for visas; Nursing incentives not enough

"Absurd" processing times and permanent migration pathways are in the spotlight this week, meanwhile recruiters have welcomed incentives to attract more people to nursing, while highlighting bigger issues the sector must address.

Ahead of the Jobs and Skills Summit this week, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has avoided committing to new skilled migration targets, but says the system needs greater reform because "it's not just about numbers".

"It's about how we do this beyond, yes, addressing the urgent needs which are there in particular professions, but also in areas like hospitality there's massive skills shortages," he said after a National Press Club speech yesterday...
