Recruiters aware of psychosocial hazards, but ill-equipped to handle them

Months after new workplace safety obligations came into effect, there remains a concerning lack of action in the recruitment industry, a compliance specialist says.

Safe Work Australia amended the Commonwealth Work Health and Safety Regulations last year to include a positive duty to minimise psychosocial hazards so far as is reasonably practicable, with an accompanying model code of practice.

The amendments, which require employers to identify and assess both present and emerging psychosocial hazards in the workplace, and to implement a systematic risk management framework, have helped to raise awareness, says Certex International founder and MD Dianne Gibert...
