Recruiters missing the mark on psychosocial risk management

Most recruiters remain unaware of psychosocial risks, or are taking a "set and forget" approach to managing them, a health and safety expert says in the wake of a new code being released.

Psychosocial hazards are anything at work that might cause psychological harm, says Risk Collective founder and principal advisor Amy Towers, and they can arise from the way work is designed and managed, the working environment, or behaviours such as bullying, harassment and discrimination.

For example, they can arise from high job demands or meeting KPIs, so there are two areas where this affects recruiters directly, Towers tells Shortlist.

"They've got their own teams that they need got to look out for, their internal teams. They've got to think about, 'what are the psychosocial risks for my team?'...
