Recruiters overtake Google as primary job-switching channel

Employees are increasingly turning to recruitment agencies, moreso than online searching, to help make their next career move, new research indicates.

The annual Randstad Employer Brand Research, which surveyed more than 6,000 Australians, has found that 35% of job switchers made use of recruiters in the past year (up from 28% a year earlier), overtaking Google and making recruiters the most-used channel.

Google is now second (26%), closely followed by online job boards (24%). (Of the latter, 69% of board users indicated they have used Seek, followed by 44% using Indeed.)

On the increase in using recruiters to change jobs, "the reality is, when you're going through a job-switching process, it still can be a stressful experience, no matter how confident you are," says Katherine Swan, NSW general manager of HR Partners by Randstad...
