Recruiters' privacy risks escalating; 'best practices' remain rare

Recruitment companies now face an "exponential" risk of security breaches, with human error their greatest gap, but many aren't taking all necessary steps to protect themselves and "very, very few" are adopting best practices, an industry auditor says.

Data breaches and being hacked has become a "major problem", says Certex International managing director Dianne Gibert.

"The risk of security breaches is just exponentially growing and the word in the industry is, it's not a matter of if, it's when," she tells Shortlist.

"There are two types of companies in the world – those who have not yet been hacked, and those who have. Even those who think they haven't yet been hacked, they may well be being hacked right now, they just don't know it yet."

Recruitment businesses are "very concerned" because "one of the great gaps is from employees, and employees coming in through the supply chain are just as risky as their own people"...
