Time for "brave" choices on skilled immigration

The voice of industry has for too long been neglected in reforming Australia's skilled immigration system, and some "brave" choices are now needed to support attracting overseas talent, a Robert Walters MD says.

It's time to take a step back and identify where critical talent shortages are now, instead of "retrospectively looking at skills shortage data", says Robert Walters NSW managing director, Andrew Hanson.

In discussing what the key goals of this week's Jobs and Skills Summit should be, he says "what we're looking for is, hopefully, a proper review of the long-term talent needs here in Australia and hopefully, from an immigration perspective... a more flexible system", which can be "owned" by the Government but with more input from businesses and industry bodies...
