Tribunal to hear candidate's data privacy dispute

A tribunal will hear a case early in 2024 that could clarify how privacy laws apply to the ways candidate information is shared between recruitment companies, assessment providers, employers and HR information systems.

The claimant successfully applied for a role with the Victorian Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions, through an online hiring campaign managed by Hudson Global Resources.

Although successful, she subsequently took action in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) claiming the Department had breached some of the privacy principles set down in the Victorian Privacy and Data Protection Act...
